Colorado Woman Credited With Returning Criminal Husband to Jail

Law enforcement officials in Colorado have a trustworthy citizen to thank for returning a criminal to jail.

According to officials in Grand Junction, Colorado, James Rynerson was behind bars in late May at the Mesa County Jail. He was being held on a $2,000 cash bond while awaiting prosecution on charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing. The 38-year-old was released by mistake after Mesa County sheriff’s deputies at the Jail misidentified him for another inmate named Marvin March.

Thankfully, someone noticed the error. That person was Rynerson’s wife, who made him turn himself back in after less than two hours of freedom. Mesa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Henry Stoffel spoke about the situation last week, confirming that jail employees broke procedure when they did not check Rynerson’s wristband and picture before allowing the man to leave. His wife has been publicly credited for doing the right thing and returning her husband to jail.
