Fans of the Eastern Black Rhino will have a new place to check out – the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is expanding its exhibit to better accommodate these beautiful animals.
The black rhino exhibit will be expanded to more than twice its current size to make for a more spacious environment for its current herd of five rhinos.
According to a release from the zoo, the $1.5 million expansion will be paid for by the Cleveland Zoological Society and Cleveland Metroparks. The project will feature an expanded viewing deck for guests, as well as an interior rhino barn, wallowing pool and shading/misting areas to keep the rhinos cool and comfortable!
The exhibit is located in the Zoo’s African Savanna area, and the expansion will make it easier to provide a high standard of care for the herd of one of the world’s most endangered species.
Construction is set to commence this fall and finish in spring of next year.
