Chicanos Por La Causa is continuing to take strides to improve the future for those in need and encouraging change through action.
The non-profit organization, with nearly fifty years of experience in changemaking, plans to open a community school in Fall 2017.
Envision High School will soon open in the former Carrington College building at Oracle and Prince roads.
Slated for an opening on Monday, August 21, the school will serve up to 75 students in grades 9 through 12. Envision will offer free breakfast, lunch and transportation vouchers for qualifying students, adding a valuable resource for low-income families and others in need in the 85705 zip code. The area is where CPLC’s first Tucson location opened, and there is a large immigrant population and high volume of renters rather than homeowners. Other high schools in the area are Amphitheater and Flowing Wells.
According to the official Envision Website, they are “an alternative school that provides students with a safe and caring learning environment. At Envision High School students will envision the endless possibilities for their future and be empowered to excel, change, and lead.”
Envision students can earn high school and college credits, with the opportunity to graduate early by earning more credits. They will have access to interactive student centered instruction, personalized career/college portfolio, free tuition, free tutoring, and free bus passes. Their social services will give students the chance to help their families with resources, and they will learn about culinary arts, trade jobs and vocational education.
Envision will join CPLC’s first high school at 251 W. Irvington Road. Visit cplccommunityschools.org for more information.
