Those living in Chandler’s Whispering Heights HOA and Dobson Estates III can now truly say that they live in award winning neighborhoods, and be speaking literally.
These two top-notch Chandler areas were winners at this year’s Mayor’s Neighborhood Excellence Awards as Whispering Heights was hand-picked by Mayor Jay Tibshraeny, and Chandler citizens voted for Dobson Estates III for the People’s Choice Award.
The neighborhoods were announced during the Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods (GAIN) kick-off event that was help on the Sept. 25th weekend and was hosted by the Chandler Police.
“Many themes came out in this year’s applications including relationship-building, increased communication and interaction, trust, safe places and most important of all — fun,” Tibshraeny said. “These are the building blocks of successful neighborhoods and a key factor in our success as a city.”
The Mayor’s Excellence Awards are put together by the City’s Neighborhood Programs Office, as well as the Chandler Police Crime Prevention Unit and the awards are meant to recognize different neighborhoods’ GAIN events, as well as their dedication to helping create and maintaining a sense of community through different events, increasing neighborhood involvement and helping develop the next generation of leaders within the Chandler community.
The actions that Whispering Heights took throughout the last year that helped them stand out for the awards was their actions to invite the entire neighborhood to GAIN events, as well as coordinating events around the neighborhood’s annual Halloween party. The HOA board also makes a point of making sure that they introduce themselves to new neighbors, as well as providing them with welcome packets that encourage community communication and safety.
Dobson Estates III also hosted GAIN events, and each street in the community has its own Block Watch that meet and work together as one large group. They also hold Block Watch parties and social media awareness campaigns that help with community safety and community building.
