Chandler, Arizona: An epic rematch ended in victory for the Chandler High School Football team, as they earned the 6A Conference state championship titleĀ on Saturday.
Chandler bested Phoenix Mountain Pointe’s football team, a thrilling win for the team that was brutally outscored eleven weeks ago. In the team’s first meeting earlier this year, Mountain Pointe beat Chandler with a score of 52-7, a tough loss for the otherwise promising team.
The revenge game was intense from kickoff. At the end of the first half, the Chandler Wolves led 22-7. The Mountain Pointe Pride didn’t go down without a fight, and Chandler’s fourth-quarter, 76-yard scoring drive secured their 36-17 victory.
Chandler’s victory was no surprise, as they have been notably successful in the last part of the season leading up to the playoffs, while Mountain Pointe has suffered multiple injuries.
In September’s game, Mountain Pointe dominated the rushing game with 362 yards. On Saturday, Chandler took control of the offensive game, running for 309 yards. T.J. Green ran for 233 yards and secured three touchdowns for his team. Chandler’s defense kept Mountain Pointe under control and picked off quarterback Noah Grover three times.
It was an exciting and rewarding end to the season for Chandler, especially given their devastating loss earlier in the year.
