
(Tempe, Arizona) – Tempe will make it easy for people to get to New Year’s Eve festivities, including Tempe’s Mill Avenue destinations on Dec. 31.
Coors Light Free Rides® is sponsoring free rides on the bus, light rail and ADA Dial-A-Ride beginning at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 through the end of the service day. Before 7 p.m., the cost is $2 for one ride on bus or rail.
Below, residents can find the most effective route to join the celebrations on New Year’s Eve using Tempe’s light rail, bus and parking options, while keeping in mind certain detours and street closures.
VALLEY METRO RAIL
Those traveling near or far can park at one of the designated Valley Metro Rail light rail park-and-ride locations and ride the train to the event. Party-goers should exit the Mill Ave/3rd St station to access the event. For any changes, check www.valleymetro.org, or call 602-253-5000 for hours and frequencies.
Park & Ride locations in Tempe:
- Apache Boulevard at Loop 101/Price Road – southeast corner
- Apache Boulevard at McClintock Drive – southeast corner (parking garage)
- Apache Boulevard at Dorsey Lane – northeast corner
Riders can also get 10 percent off two Uber rides to or from Valley Metro Rail stations from 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 through 3 a.m. on Jan. 1. Enter code CLNYE.
BUS TRANSIT
Valley Metro bus routes will operate a Saturday schedule on Dec. 31. All routes will run according to regular service. On Sunday, Jan. 1, and Monday, Jan. 2, bus and rail will operate a Sunday schedule. For more information on Valley Metro and Orbit routes, please download our Tempe Transit Map.
Mill Avenue, from University Drive to Rio Salado Parkway, will be closed to traffic, with several streets east and west near Myrtle and Ash avenues closed as well. Bus routes serving the downtown area will also be detoured. For specific information on street closures and bus detours, please visit www.tempe.gov/streetclosures.
PARKING
Public parking costs vary from $5 to $20 in the downtown area. In all parking lots open to the public, there are designated ADA parking spaces.
Some parking locations include:
- Hayden Square Garage and West Lot at Third Street and Ash Avenue
- US Airway Garage at Ash Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway
- Hayden Ferry Garage on Rio Salado Parkway just east of Mill Avenue
- Centerpoint Garage on Ash Avenue north of University Drive
