CdS Percussion Wins State Championship, Ranked #1 in US

Less than one week after Corona del Sol Percussion won the won the Winter Guard International (WGI) Percussion West Power Regional Champinship in San Bernardino, California, the talented group of students won the Percussion Scholastic Concert division at the Winter Guard Arizona (WGAZ) State Championships and learned they are ranked No. 1 in the nation.

The WGAZ competition was held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Desert Ridge High School. Corona del Sol received the highest score (93.05) of any of the percussion groups competing in the Championships. The group had also received the highest score (91.5) at the regional championship on March 26, 2017. Since then, the other regional competitions have wrapped up and with all the scores tallied, Corona finishes on top with the best score in the country.

At the WGAZ competition, CdS senior Olivia Jackman won a scholarship for outstanding percussion member. It was the highest scholarship awarded for the evening.

The students are led by Corona’s Director of Percussion Scott Werner.
