A local Phoenix restaurant was treated to a rude awakening on Friday night, when a vehicle plowed into the eatery during the dinner rush.

One person sustained minor injuries when a car barreled into the Persian Garden Cafe around 6:15 pm, interrupting the peaceful atmosphere that the cafe is known for.

The eatery, a popular place offering authentic vegetarian, Mediterranean, and Persian cuisine, is located near the corner of 15th Ave. and Thomas Road, a busy area that sees a lot of daily traffic.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, a customer was hit by a table when the car entered the building, but the injury is not reported as serious. Police suspect the driver was impaired and the impairment is the cause of the crash.

Following the incident, the driver was taken into custody for DUI testing.

Persian Garden Cafe could be closed for up to a week while repairs are made to the building.
