A beautiful day at a stunning natural wonder in southern Oregon has turned tragic.

Search and rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate a California man who plunged off a cliff while taking a photo above a picturesque waterfall.

The accident took place at Toketee Falls in Douglas County, about 60 miles east of Roseburg. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Brian Lewinstein of Berkley had crossed over a safety fence to take a picture when he slipped and fell down a steep embankment.

Authorities received reports of an adult male who fell down a cliff at 2:48 PM on Sunday. Since then, emergency responders and members of Pacific Corp have been searching for the man.

“Given the terrain and factors involved this mission is very complex. Our search volunteers are searching with an utmost sense of urgency, while carefully balancing the needs for responder safety,” said Sgt. Brad O’Dell.
