A bus filled with young Arizonan students was involved in an incident with a motorcyclist this past week.
The accident occurred on Friday morning as crews responded to the scene on Phelps Drive, close to Ironwood Drive and Broadway Avenue. Officials say a male motorcyclist was hit and pinned underneath the school bus. The man, identified as 36-year-old Clinton Pennington, was pronounced dead. Apache Junction police say the bus was transporting 10 students at the time of the incident, but they were transferred to another bus for their morning commute.
No one else was injured in the incident, and the bus driver passed all field sobriety tests and cooperated with the investigation. Phelps Drive between 5th Avenue and Apache Trail was shut down for several hours as officers continued their investigation. It has not yet been released if speed or alcohol played a role in the crash.
