Border Patrol agents made a major narcotics bust on Thursday, August 30th.
According to officials with the U.S Customs and Border Protection agency, agents assigned to Blythe Station’s Immigration Checkpoint on Highway 78 uncovered almost a million dollars’ worth of hard drugs. At 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, agents sent a Honda Accord with two occupants to a secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K9 alerted to the car.
A closer look at the sedan unveiled 24 bundles of heroin and cocaine disguised within compartments in the tires. Agents seized nearly 40 pounds of heroin, valued at over $688,000, and close to 25 pounds of cocaine, worth almost $280,000. The 31-year-old driver and 39-year-old passenger, both identified as residents of Yuma, were taken into custody and face charges.
