The woes for the Tucson golf scene continue as another local course announced it was ceasing operations.
The Golf Club at Vistoso in Oro Valley is the fourth course to shut down in the past seven years. According to a notice posted by Vistoso officials, the course suspended operations Friday, June 1. This will effect the 39 employees who work at Vistoso.
This sad news continues the trend of tough times for golf courses. Earlier this year in April, the Blanchard Golf Course at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base shut down. Pima County recently began work on converting the closed Canoa Hills Golf Course in Green Valley into a park for the local community, while Santa Rita Golf Course on Houghton Road said goodbye to golfers in 2011.
These courses have struggled to overcome less golfers combined with rising utility and water costs.
