AZ Pure Water Brew Challenge Makes a Stop in Pima County

Pima County recently joined in the fun for the AZ Pure Water Brew Challenge.

A mobile purification truck traveled to the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department, where water from Agua Nueva Water Facility was pumped into the treatment trailer.  Using a multi-barrier purification process, the water goes through ultra-filtration, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet disinfection with advanced oxidation, activated carbon filtration and chlorine disinfection. This advanced system transforms recycled wastewater from the community into purified drinking water.

This is all part of a unique effort to better educate and inform Arizonans of water conservation and ways to minimize their impact on the planet and it’s precious water sources.

Local breweries and bottling services in the Tucson area have received the water to use, serving as an example to the benefits of water reuse. The public will soon be able to taste it!

This effort was made possible after the Pima County Southwest Water Campus team was awarded $302,500 in the New Arizona Prize: Water Innovation Challenge, a competition aimed at finding new ways to maintain water sustainability. This prize money was used to construct the mobile potable reuse treatment facility.

Now, it's a dream come true to be able to write everyday and have a positive impact on communities through my reporting. In my free time, I love to travel, hike, cook and spend time with my family and friends.
