This week, the Flagstaff Arts Council presents David Christiana at the Coconino Center for the Arts.
An official nominee of the 2017 Viola Awards, Christiana is best known for his illustrations, which have appeared in over twenty children’s picture books. The New York native currently teaches at University of Arizona in Tucson. He will speak on Thursday, April 13, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m and the event is free and open to the community.
At the center, guests can also view Christiana’s stunning exhibition of egg tempera paintings, Ecstacies + Homilies,in the Hidden Light gallery. Each of the 16″ x 20″ paintings reflects earthbound spiritualism and depicts Christian traditions. During his Thursday night visit, Christiana will talk about the evolution of his art over the years and the artistic, creative process that goes into his work.
Christiana’s examples of egg tempera involve a process using egg yolk to bind pigments, giving the finished product a unique texture and appearance.
