Community Flagstaff News Assistance League of Flagstaff Hosts Celebratory Ice Cream Social Rachael Bouley - June 11, 2017 0 What better way to celebrate 35 years of community service than with an ice cream social? Assistance League of Flagstaff is inviting the Flagstaff community to come together for an ice cream social this Saturday, June 17, at Cedar Closet Thrift Shop (2919 N. West Street). The event will begin at 1 p.m., just in time for a tasty treat after lunch. In 1982, Assistance League of Flagstaff began with a single program called the Volunteer Bureau, encouraging community service and making a difference. Fast forward to present day, and the group now leads ten programs supporting infants, veterans, the elderly and victims of domestic violence. Proceeds from Cedar Closet Thrift Shop funds these crucial programs, and member volunteers operate the store in order to make it all possible. In 1986, Assistance League was awarded the honor of Flagstaff’s Organization of the Year. Most recently, the group was recognized as the Civic Group of the Year by GEMS, the Civic Service Institute at Northern Arizona University.
