A former Tucson hair stylist will spend 6.5 years behind bars for what authorities described as a “heartless and devastating” crime.
64-year-old Supranom “Addy” Klos stole more than $300,000 from a 94-year-old client who suffers from dementia.
Klos blew the woman’s life savings on gambling, a new vehicle and dental implants, according to a recent news release from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. The judge ordered Klos to repay all the money stolen from the victim. After she is released, Klos will be placed on 3 years probation.
As the victim’s hair stylist, Klos formed a friendship with the victim and her husband more than two decades ago. The victim’s husband passed away in 2011 and eventually Klos was made power of attorney.
In 2014, Klos began abusing the power of attorney by rapidly depleting the victim’s bank accounts. She spent the money on gambling, a new car and dental work, rather than on care for the victim.
The bank informed law enforcement of the suspicious activity after large sums of money were transferred out of the victim’s savings account.
In December 2017, Klos was found guilty of 3 counts of Theft, 1 count of Fraudulent Schemes, 1 count of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, and 1 count of Unlawful Use of Power of Attorney.
The victim is receiving assistance from a court-appointed guardian to ensure her safety and well-being.
