If you have any immediate plans to head up to Mount Lemmon, you may need to reschedule or make alternate plans. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has announced Sunday afternoon that Mount Lemmon is closed at the base due to adverse weather conditions including snow and wind.
Officials say residents and employees will still have access to their homes or businesses as long as they have 4-wheel drive or use chains on their tires.
This temporary closure comes as a cold front sweeps across Tucson, brining near wintry weather to holiday revelers in Southern Arizona. Sunday’s chance of snow on Mount Lemmon increased to 60 percent. During past snowfalls, the roads at the base of the mountain had been closed due to overcrowding and conditions.
