Walkout information and options for Kid Zone, city community centers and Tempe PRE

The City of Tempe is working diligently to provide options for parents during this week’s walkout. Below is a list of day camps and recreation facilities that will be available. We are continuously working to expand these options and will provide updates as the plan evolves.

We will keep parents updated via email, at www.tempe.gov, www.tempe.gov/KidZone and the city’s Facebook page.

KID ZONE DAY CAMPS

Broadmor Elementary, 311 E. Aepli Drive, Tempe

Rover Elementary, 1300 E. Watson Drive, Tempe

Fuller Elementary, 1975 E. Cornell Drive, Tempe

The Tempe Elementary School District will close indefinitely beginning Thursday, April 26. Kid Zone will offer day camps from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Broadmor, Rover and Fuller elementary schools on a first come, first served basis. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the district. Due to state licensing requirements, the number of students is limited to 200.

Waggoner Elementary, 1050 E. Carver Road, Tempe

The Kyrene School District has announced that schools will close on Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27. Kid Zone will offer a day camp on both days from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at C.I. Waggoner Elementary on a first come, first served basis. Due to state licensing requirements, the number of students is limited to 200. Children must bring their own lunch; morning and afternoon snacks will be provided.

Kid Zone Camp Cost and Registration Information

Registration is underway now and will go until 5 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, April 25). The cost of the camp is $25 per day and tuition assistance is available to income eligible families. Kid Zone participants can register using their existing accounts at www.kidzonelogin.com.

Non-Kid Zone Participant Registration

Students not currently enrolled in Kid Zone will need to register in person at the Edna Vihel Arts Center, 3340 S. Rural Rd. The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Go to the Kid Zone office just off the main lobby.

WESTSIDE MULTI-GENERATIONAL CENTER DAY CAMP

The Boys & Girls Club will offer its day camp to the public for $20 a day at the Westside Multi-Generational Center. Parents can register in person anytime during operating hours.

STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN LUNCH

NORTH TEMPE MULTI-GENERATIONAL CENTER

The Boys & Girls Club will offer transportation to its day camp at Westside Multi-Generational Center.  The day camp is offered to the public for $20 per day.  Parents can register in person at Westside Multi-Generational Center.  For more information call 480-858-6502 or 480-858-2400.

ESCALANTE COMMUNITY CENTER

The Escalante Community Center will be open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday April 26 and Friday April 27 for drop-in programming for children 6-17 years of age. There is no cost to utilize the Escalante Community Center.  Participants are required to have a FREE membership form completed by a parent/guardian.

KID ZONE GETZ PRESCHOOL

The preschool will remain open during the walkout.

TEMPE PRE LOCATIONS

All 13 Tempe PRE locations in both districts will be CLOSED during the walkouts. We are working on options for parents and will provide updates as we have them. Several local preschools and church organizations are offering day camps for preschool children. We suggest checking with those in your neighborhood.

TEMPE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Tempe Public Library will open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday April 26 and Friday April 27 for drop-in programming for children 12-17 years of age. There is no cost to utilize Tempe Public Library, however students do need a library card to utilize computers.

KIWANIS RECREATION CENTER

The Kiwanis Recreation Center is open from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Thursday April 26 and 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Friday April 27.  All of the following activities would be available during specified times at the drop in rate for each activity. Any participant 7 years of age or younger must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
