Video – Sizzlin’ Steak Alert!

Over the past weekend of August 10th – 12th, Cochise County hosted 2 very exciting events in Bisbee with the monthly Art Walk and the annual Pirates of the Wasteland fest. With venues the unique Bisbee Seance Room and fabulous live music by bands like Carolyn Toronto, there is no doubt that Cochise County looks mostly to Bisbee for weekend entertainment and nightlife. Elsewhere in this county, Tombstone and Sierra Vista see the bulk of tourism and local action. There are some other hidden gems scattered about the county, and 2 small towns stand out: Naco / Naco and Douglas /Agua Prieta.

Naco, United States has a bar of historic significance – the Gay 90’s Bar. Accepting cash only is actually common in the state of Arizona, and this bar may be a cash only bar.  Gay 90's bar, Naco, US  They are located at 3856 S Towner Avenue. They have karaoke on certain nights, and you can call ahead to see if it’s your lucky night at (520) 432-4677. I regrettably cannot recall the name of the dj right now, but he also hosts karaoke at St. Elmo’s in Bisbee. The bar serves very good house margaritas!

What is there to do in Douglas? Truthfully, not much. The town, however, boasts some spectacular mural art of Arizona, US, and Sonora, Mexico (featured photo). The charming Son Paises boutique at 555 E 10th Street is open for weekend shopping, and ladies, if you are not able to visit during business hours, Ana definitely welcomes you to peruse her website at the link provided. What sets this boutique apart from the rest are her selections of feminine elegance and style with an emphasis on quality materials. While certainly not the dollar store competitor, Son Paises offers rich looking clothing and accessories at pocketbook friendly pricing. Classy options for cocktail parties to formal occasions!

Douglas has several dining options from KFC and McDonalds to various taco trucks usually located by the park. The town also happens to have possibly the best fine dining option for Cochise County with Chatita’s Steakhouse. First walking into the restaurant, the rustic wooden furniture and tastefully selected decor meld into a comfortable atmosphere for parties riding outside all day, to the couples wanting a romantic dinner out. The ambience is very appealing, but I do not pay to eat ambience, and will move on to their highlights: The Food.Sirloin, medium rare

Their menu offers the colossal Chatita burger and other casual options. Health minded choices include a variety of salads with chicken – beef – shrimp – fish options, to the salmon dinner with rice and vegetables. There is a light serving of lemon butter sauce over the salmon and vegetables, and trust, it’s still healthy for some of us, because if food doesn’t taste good, we won’t get it down period. They blended the lemon butter perfectly where the lemon is not overpowering. In fact, from salsa, to steak, to salmon, the chefs have delivered well spiced food without being too much for more sensitive gastronomy. Their Sonoran options include tacos, burritos, enchiladas, soups, and some entrees. From heavy meals to lighter fare, Chatitas Steakhouse consistently offers flavors made with fresh ingredients in a clean, comfortable atmosphere for prices lower than most places.  Salmon with rice and vegetables

This weekend, while you’re out perusing the Bisbee Farmer’s Market, a little jaunt to Chatita’s Steakhouse is well worth the scenic drive through the desert, especially after monsoon rains. You can still view the “Legacies of the Feminine” exhibit at PSA Art Awakenings Gallery in downtown Bisbee. On display are works by famous local artists including Cyn Kuhn, Alex Wiest, and Bill Clark. Should you happen to develop a sweet tooth while strolling around Bisbee, there are some Good Cakes available next to Ana’s Seasonal Kitchen.
