VIDEO: Celebrate Culture at the Tucson Japanese Festival This Weekend
An exciting annual event returns this weekend, granting the Tucson community with a chance to experience Japanese culture and traditions!
The Tucson Japanese New Year Festival will take place this Saturday, January 14, from 11 am to 3 pm at the Pima Community College Downtown Campus Center (1255 N. Stone Ave.).
There will be plenty to see and do, and guests can expect an enriching culture experience, complete with demonstrations, arts & crafts, games, food, mochi (rice cake) pounding, musical performances, and taiko drumming!
Popular Phoenix-based Japanese artist Ken Koshio and Koshio Gumi will take the stage for a musical performance from 2:30 – 2:50 pm, wrapping up a day of cultural awareness and celebration!
This fun, annual tradition is sponsored by the Southern Arizona Japanese Cultural Coalition
Japanese New Year festival featuring mochi (rice cake) pounding, demonstrations, art & crafts, games, food, musical performances, taiko drumming, and more! Sponsored by Southern Arizona Japanese Cultural Coalition, which strives to embrace Japanese culture in the southern part of the state, this event is a great way to learn more about Japanese food and traditions.
Odaiko Sonora, the Tucson-based artistic drumming organization, and the Yume Japanese Gardens of Tucson are also sponsoring and supporting the event.
