Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy presents the musical Cabaret opening on Thursday. The advanced musical theater class has put together the production under the direction of Viola-winning teacher Mike Levin.

Audience members will get to enjoy a Traditional German dinner and sit at the Kit Kat Club during the performance. Regular seats without dinner will also be available.

The play is set in a Berlin nightclub at the end of the 1920s, and it explores the German lifestyle as the country slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich and leader Adolf Hitler. A young American writer named Cliff arrives in Berlin and is immediately smitten with English singer Sally Bowles, while the proprietor of their boardinghouse, Fräulein Schneider, begins a tentative romance with a Jewish fruit seller named Herr Schultz. Musical numbers include Willkommen, Cabaret, Don’t Tell Mama and Two Ladies, which work to mirror political events of the past, present and future.

Performances on April 13, 14 and 15 will take place at Tranzend Studio (417 W. Santa Fe. Ave.) 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.  Performances on April 21, 22 and 23 will be held at the Stage 7 Theatre at FALA (3401 N. Fort Valley Road) with the same show times. Regular seating is $10 and $7 for students, while dinner seating is $15 and $12 for students. Tickets are available for purchase in the FALA office or at http://m.bpt.me/event/2905623.

Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy is a public charter high school and middle school that emphasizes the performing and visual arts throughout it’s preparatory curriculum.
