Valley Mechanics Are Prepared For National Preparedness Month


(PHOENIX)– In recognition of National Preparedness Month, local mechanics are prepared to explain how to handle road emergencies. Your Neighborhood Auto Repair Professionals (NARPRO) are available to discuss and demonstrate:

What to do if your brakes fail

• Avoid pumping the brakes. Instead take your foot off the accelerator. Shift the car into a lower gear. When the car is moving at 30 miles per hour or less you can use the hand brake. 

What to do if your engine catches fire

• Pull off the road, turn off the engine and get out of the car. Don’t try to put the fire out. Instead walk as far away as you can and call for help.

What to do during a tire blowout

• Avoid immediately braking or turning. Keep a firm grip on the steering wheel and continue driving straight. Slowly release the gas pedal, pull to a safe spot on the side of the road and turn on your emergency flashers.

What to do if a power line falls on your car.

• To avoid electrical shock, stay inside until professional help arrives to remove the wire.

Why you should keep you gas tank full

• If you’re stranded in the heat or cold you can keep the car running and if you’re evacuated you want enough fuel to reach a safe location.
