Tucson Lawyer and Mayor’s Father Passes Away

Lowell E. Rothschild, a well-known Tucson lawyer and father of the city’s mayor, passed away Friday. He was 90 years old.

Rothschild is best known for being one of three founders of law firm Mesch, Marquez and Rothschild in 1957. He served as a trusted advisor and confidante to many, and is remembered for his core values of honesty, friendship and community service. He continued his involvement with the firm until his death.

In 1952, Rothschild received his J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law. His practice centered around estate planning, bankruptcy and business reorganization, and he served a variety of debtors, creditors and creditors’ committees. Rothschild was a valued member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and for more than twenty years has been listed in the Best Lawyers of America, a collection of top firms and representatives in the country.

“My father was a trusted adviser and confidant to many,” Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild said. “He was guided by his core values of honesty, friendship, and service to his community.”

Rothschild was preceded in death by his wife of sixty three years, Anne.
