The Clean House Promises Laughter and Tears at Theatrikos

Looking for some laughs to lighten your day? Check out some comedic relief at Theatrikos Theatre Company’s second production of the season, The Clean House.

As Sarah Ruhl’s 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist The Clean House is an entertaining and poignant insight at class, comedy and the true nature of love. The show will play on weekends through Sunday, April 23 at the Doris Harper-White Community Playhouse in historic downtown Flagstaff.

The play stars Lane and Charles, a married couple who both work as doctors. Matilde is their Brazilian housekeeper and an aspiring comedian, and she’s more concerned with perfecting her jokes than housecleaning. Lane’s unique, eccentric sister Virginia loves to clean, so she takes over housekeeping duties and bonds with Matilde. Trouble ensues, particularly when Charles discovers his true soulmate in Ana, a cancer patient he treated. Is it possible to literally die from laughter? Find out as Susan Chastain, Patricia McKee, Jess Pinaire, Viola Award-winner Linda Sutera and John Winikka take to the stage.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m. Sundays through April 23. There will not be a performance on Easter Sunday, but a matinee performance has been added at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15. Tickets range from $18 to $21 and can be purchased at Theatrikos.com, by calling 774-1662, or at the theater.
