State Troopers Seize Major Marijuana Stash Near Nogales

State troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety made a major discovery last Tuesday, seizing more than a ton of marijuana just north of the Nogales border.

The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24 on I-19.

According to a DPS release, a trooper stopped a vehicle traveling north on I-19 for unsafe lane usage, but the driver ran from the vehicle into a wooded area near the interstate. The driver was not caught, but state troopers discovered a massive amount of marijuana during their search of the vehicle.

They found 129 bundles of marijuana, weighing 2,655 pounds and worth an estimated $929,250 according to DPS.

This is another example of how DPS aims to disrupt criminal activity by domestic and transnational criminal organizations throughout the state and border.
