Search and Rescue Volunteers Needed
New volunteers are needed to join a life-saving team in the Tucson area.
The Southern Arizona Rescue Association (SARA) is looking for responsible, helpful individuals to make a difference in the community. The non-profit has been serving southern Arizona and Pima County since 1958, leading volunteer efforts to save those in danger in the desert.
SARA helps the Pima County Sheriff’s Department by responding to heat-related calls and search and rescue efforts. They do not take their responsibility lightly- in many cases, the team saves lives through their rescue efforts. SARA is a valuable resource for law enforcement and emergency service agencies
They have an especially busy summer head of them with the extreme heat, and they have responded to more than sixty calls.
The more hands on deck, the better, as emergency calls increase when the nice weather sends people outside on hikes and outdoor adventures. Volunteers will spend about a year in training before offiically assuming SARA duties.
New volunteers are welcome to join, no hiking or outdoor experience necessary. For those interested in joining this year, there will be an orientation meeting on Tuesday, July 18, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at SARA offices (5990 N Sabino Canyon Rd, Tucson, AZ 85750. Mark your calendars for the mandatory applicant hike on Saturday, August 12, for all prospective volunteer candidates.
Please visit the SARA page on this site to learn more about the group or follow SARA on Facebook.
