OPINION: Re-elect Robin Arredondo-Savage for Tempe City Council
Councilmember Robin Arredondo-Savage

Four years ago when Robin Arredondo-Savage was running for Tempe City Council. I supported her candidacy then, and I support her now.

Robin has deep Tempe community roots.  She has served on the Tempe High School Board and the Tempe City Council. Her civic integrity and official professionalism are both exceptional. Robin earned these community leadership positions. She earned these roles by serving in the Army, graduating from Arizona State University and building up her Tempe small business independent insurance agency.

This unique background has given Robin the perspective that she needs to understand the problems that Tempe faces, and how to effectively resolve them. Robin works well with the different political parties and independents. As a successful small businesswoman Robin has strong relationships with not only the business community, but employee groups as well. She fairly listens to both business and labor about community matters.

Robin and her family benefited from public education and she makes every effort to make sure that others receive the same benefit. Although she is no longer a member the school board, Robin supports public education including enhanced public funding at every opportunity.

Regarding improving municipal services, Robin has always demonstrated a clear sense of fiscal responsibility when considering the funding of additional services proposed. For this quality she is respected by the business sector and others as well.

Members of the labor community have found Robin to be equally accessible. Earlier this year, one woman city employee was being subjected to the consistent verbal abuse by a city councilmember. That city councilmember was in turn facilitating the public social media shaming and bashing of the woman employee victim, as other community “leaders” trivialized this abuse. Instead of considering the matter trivial like other community and media “leaders” did, in an inspirational fashion Robin voted to reprimand the councilmember in question, who disgracefully violated Tempe’s Code of Conduct with this behavior.

Tempe needs leaders like Robin who will courageously fight for the rights of city employees, constituents, neighborhoods, police, firefighters, veterans and others. Tempe needs an ethical leader like Robin who effectively promotes not only the enhancement of Tempe’s fiscal and municipal services, but also promotes the community as a whole.

In the next Tempe City Council election, I will be voting for Robin Arredondo-Savage, and I urge others to do the same.
