Pursuit of Alleged Kidnapper Ends in Big Crash

A chase involving a suspected kidnapper ended with a multi-car crash on Friday afternoon.

According to troopers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, no one was seriously hurt in the incident, which occured when Gila County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over a pickup truck south of Payson. The vehicle had out-of-state plates and the truck’s driver was allegedly wanted for several outstanding warrants. Law enforcement had received reports that he may have forcibly taken the female passenger in his truck.

At 4:35 pm, a DPS trooper observed a truck fitting the desired description close to the intersection of Beluah Boulevard and Lake Mary Road. As the trooper reversed directions to pursue the suspect, the truck momentarily pulled into the Olive Garden parking lot. When the trooper followed into the parking lot, the suspect proceeded to head back to beulah Boulevard before heading toward Northern Arizona University.

DPS and NAU Police are both conducting investigations and looking into criminal charges. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
