The campus has security doors, self-locking push bar exit doors and locked gates. Yet even with all these features, officials have chosen to add an extra layer of security.
In partnership with the Prescott Valley Police Department, there will now be a police presence on campus every day. The school is funding the weekly rotation of police through contributions, donations and grants.
A police officer will remain on campus for most of the school day, and the officer will receive a daily orientation regarding daily schedules and requirements. Police will also speak to students about following rules and preventing bullying, while helping teachers during recess and other breaks.
Prescott Valley School is located on the east end of town off Mendocino Drive. Students K-8 attend campus on the north side of East Lorna Lane, while middle schoolers grades 5-8 are on the south side. The school remains proactive by initiating drills, extensive threat preparation and training, and consistent updates to its emergency response protocols.
