Police Presence Increases at Glendale Schools
Officials are taking school safety and security very seriously in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale.

The city made an announcement Friday, sharing that effective immediately, every high school will be assigned a dedicated police officer. The law enforcement officials will remain on campus throughout the school day as a preventive measure.

Glendale has nine public high school campuses that are part of four different school districts. According to Mayor Jerry Weiers, the addition of officers at these campuses will allow for rapid response in the event of threats or incidents.

Protecting students and staff has become a hot topic as school shootings and other violence become more and more common. Glendale’s decision comes after Gov. Doug Ducey suggested the state allocate more funds toward school resource officers and mental health services for students and staff.
