Plans for an additional building to an assisted living center in Paradise Valley moved forward after approval of the preliminary approval report during a planning and development meeting with the City of Phoenix on Thursday.

Pacifica Assisted Living Center currently has one single-story building with seven beds. The plan proposed by Rick North, a Pacifica Companies developer, is to build a new two-story 17,740 square foot building with 22 beds.

Steve Noblet, the team leader for this project, said the new facility is expected to break ground in four to five months and have its grand opening at this time next year. He said that this added facility will help release the burden of city-funded assisted living, as the Pacifica Assisted Living center is privately owned.

“The boomers are getting old,” said Noblet, “so this is a lot of response to a dramatic increase in the need for assisted living facilities.”

In addition to the 22 bed spaces, architect Neil Feaser said new amenities will be added to the facility as well. The amenities include a theater, gaming room, and multipurpose room. His colleague, Rajesh Gore, said that the amenities will help better the community of the current center.

Feaser said that having more bed spaces in an assisted living facility is important, especially in Phoenix, because many people move down here without their family, so it offers them a place to go in a safe and welcoming community.
