Planet Fitness has a tradition dating back to 1999 called Pizza Monday. Every month, the fitness company treats members to free pizza on the first Monday. With Planet Fitness gyms closed due to the COVID-19 crisis, the company has done a pizza pivot, turning their usual Pizza Monday into Give Back Pizza Monday nationwide.
Here in the Valley, partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, and donated a total of 185 pizzas to 10 clubs across the Valley. Nine clubs received their special treat on Monday, and the newly reopened Gilbert club got their special delivery on the following Monday.
“We’re proud to partner with the Boys and Girls Club to give back to the local Phoenix community,” Scott McCreary, Regional Director of Planet Fitness, “We know it’s more important than ever to support further their mission to help empower children and families during this unprecedented time.”
In response to school closings, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley have opened several local clubs during school hours to serve their members and the greater community. The Clubs are primarily focused on providing childcare for healthcare workers and first responders who do not have the option to stay home and care for their children. Parents who can stay home with their children are asked to keep them home. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley are working with the Arizona Department of Health Services to ensure compliance with all safety recommendations.
“Support like this is what keeps us going – and I’m not just talking about the financial support,” says Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley CEO Marcia Minz. “Our staff members work so hard to keep the kids engaged, positive, safe and healthy, and receiving a special delivery of pizza, water, and snacks was just the boost that they needed. And as you can imagine, the kids were pretty thrilled too! We want to thank Planet Fitness, and so many other companies and individuals who have reached out to support our mission with true acts of kindness like this one. We couldn’t do it without you.”
