Pima County Sheriff’s Kick Off Child Passenger Safety Week

Pima County is joining the rest of the country in recognizing National Child Passenger Safety Week from Sunday, September 17 to Saturday, September 23.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is leading the way, sharing startling statistics such as car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13 years old. They are also promoting the proper use of car seats, boosters, and seat belts in preventing serious injury or death. One of the biggest mistakes with car seats is that children are not placed in a seat that is right for their age and size. In addition to hosting a free car seat safety check at O’Rielly Chevrolet on Saturday, there will be increased law enforcement focused on this cause throughout the week. Officers will be checking to ensure children are properly secured inside vehicles. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, it is crucial to make sure your children are in properly installed child safety seats to keep them safe on every trip……every time.

Grants awarded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety made this National Child Passenger Safety week possible.
