Phoenix Celebrates its First Protected Bike Lane

The city of Phoenix is becoming more bike-friendly with its first-ever protected bike lane.

Many cities across the country have been adding bike lines, with sticks or bumps along its borders to establish a clear boundary.

The new bike lane is located on 15th Avenue between Jefferson and Van Buren, and it gives Phoenix bicyclists of all skill and comfort levels the chance to bike safely next to vehicles. In a press release, This Could Be PHX co-founder Quinn Tempest shared her excitement: “The most successful cities in the country – and the world – build their transportation networks around people, not just cars. This first protected bike lane is a huge step forward for Phoenix. As a bicyclist and T2050 Commissioner, I see this as a symbol that the City is serious about creating a future transportation network where every mode has a safe and equitable stake on the road. This first protected bike lane is a promising beginning to realizing that vision.”
