New Tempe History Museum exhibit features 1970s photography by Jan Young opens Nov. 3

Explore Tempe in the 1970s through the eyes of renowned local photographer, Jan Young. The Tempe History Museum is pleased to announce its new featured exhibit, Jan Young: Photographing Tempe in the 1970s. The exhibit, running from Nov. 3, 2017 through March 24, 2018, will feature many examples of Young’s photographs, as well as artifacts from her life and work. 

The community is invited to celebrate the opening of the exhibit on Friday, Nov. 3, 6 p.m. at the Tempe History Museum. Enjoy stories, refreshments and live 70s music by Robby Roberson. The event is free to attend.

Young was a staff photographer for the Tempe Daily News during the 1970s, a time of explosive population growth in the city. Known for wearing her signature trench coat year-round, she had a gift for capturing the perfect shot in one take. She photographed daily events in Tempe, showcasing the look, feel and values of the community during that decade.
