Lake Havasu Police say an NBA referee has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under influence.

Ronald Garretson was arrested after crashing his vehicle into a tree on Wednesday night.

The 60-year-old displayed signs of impairment and was booked into jail on a count of extreme driving under the influence. He was given a field sobriety test and a judge set his bond at $4,500.

According to the National Basketball Referees Association website, Garretson is an NBA referee who has officiated nearly 2,000 games throughout the past 31 seasons.

NBA spokesman Mike Bass said the league was investigating the case.
