Mountain Park Health Center Clinic Join Arizona Family Health Partnership Title X Network

To ensure that quality Title X sexual and reproductive healthcare services, resources and education are available and accessible to all individuals including youth regardless of their ability to pay or health insurance status, Arizona Family Health Partnership (AFHP) is adding clinics to the state’s Title X network.

Mountain Park Health Center clinics in Phoenix and Maryvale will begin providing services on August 3. The clinics are located at 303 E. Baseline Road and 6601 W. Thomas Road.  Additional clinics in Cochise, Pima and Maricopa counties are expected to come online before the end of the year.

“With greater access to the services provided under Title X, Arizona families will be healthier and stronger for generations to come,” said AFHP CEO Brenda “Bré” Thomas. “Mountain Park has been providing quality healthcare to families in Arizona for nearly 40 years.  Having Mountain Park medical professionals in our network enhances and expands our ability to provide essential Title X services to the community.”

Title X, enacted in 1970 as part of the Public Health Service Act, is the only Federal grant program dedicated solely to providing comprehensive family planning services.  AFHP, an Arizona nonprofit organization established in 1974, partners with nine agencies supporting 48 health centers, including Utah Navajo Health Systems in southern Utah on the Navajo Nation.

“Mountain Park is committed to providing patients with quality, affordable healthcare services – at any stage in their lives,” said Mountain Park CEO Dr. John Swagert. “With almost 2,000 Mountain Park babies being born each year, we want to be sure these babies are healthy and that their parents have the resources they need to plan their families.”

“We are proud to partner with AFHP to support our families with reproductive healthcare services including counseling and education. As a trained obstetrician I know how important these services are to a healthy outcome for the baby,” he added.

Each year, more than 30,000 individuals receive AFHP-coordinated services.

Title X services include birth control pills, condoms and other contraceptive methods; sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, prevention education, counseling, and referrals; pregnancy testing, counseling and resources; pelvic exams, including Pap smears; breast exams; family planning counseling and education; basic infertility screening; emergency contraception and reproductive health counseling and education.  Title X funds cannot be used for abortions.

In 2019, AFHP-provided services prevented an estimated 4,150 unintended pregnancies, which would have resulted in 1,950 unplanned births, 1,400 abortions and 790 miscarriages. Services also prevented an estimated 570 chlamydia and gonorrhea infections. During the 12-month period, more than 26,000 individuals received reproductive and sexual healthcare services.

Nationally, the Title X program serves more than 4 million individuals. Every $1.00 of public funding spent on contraceptive and preventive health services in the U.S. saves $7.09 in Medicaid costs for pregnancy and infant care. Every $1.00 of public funding spent on contraceptive and preventive health services in Arizona saves $11.27.

AFHP also operates and manages the website, which provides medically-based information about the effectiveness of all birth-control options as well as a search function to find health centers in communities throughout Arizona.
