Mesa Police Mourn Loss of K9

Officers and staff with the Mesa Police Department are mourning the loss of one of their trusty four-legged team members.

Their beloved K9 officer Aik died suddenly from pneumonia. Pronounced Ike, the furry, friendly animal was fierce in his duties to protect and serve the community, and he found concealed illegal substances on 182 occasions.

Aik was born in 2011 in Germany, and he was purchased by the Mesa Police Department in 2013. The intelligent, loyal animal specialized in narcotics detection and served alongside his partner, Officer LaFontaine. The two were certified by the National Police Canine Association once Aik arrived in Mesa.
The K9 had a successful law enforcement career and will be greatly missed.
