Big Draft Campaign

BBBSAZ is recruiting the next class of Bigs to address the need for more male mentors

PHOENIX (March 21st, 2024) – In collaboration with the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative, Big Brothers Big Sister of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ) is launching the Big Draft, an annual volunteer recruitment campaign to encourage more volunteers, particularly men of color, to become mentors (“Bigs”). The campaign is inspired by the NFL Draft; as the NFL drafts its next class of players, BBBSAZ will draft its next class of “Bigs” to reach more youth waiting for a mentor in Maricopa County. This campaign aims to reduce the current waiting list of 200 youth (“Littles”). Today, one in three kids in America are growing up without a sustained, positive adult mentor in their lives. The gap between mentorship and youth who need it most continues to widen due to perceived barriers of the time and expertise needed to become a mentor.

“Today, children face tremendous challenges, but through effective, long-term mentoring, BBBSAZ can help make a positive and measurable difference in their lives,” said Laura Capello, President and CEO, BBBSAZ. “We depend on generosity of volunteers in our community who can provide guidance and support to the youth that desperately need it.”

The need for youth mentorship is critical in Maricopa County. Through the Big Draft, BBBSAZ is shifting perceptions of mentorship and redefining the everyday moments that can make a big impact on the lives of young people.

On April 25th, 2024, BBBSAZ will host an NFL Draft Watch Party at their office (1615 E Osborn Road in Phoenix). The event kicks off at 5:00 pm with food donated by The Habit Burger Grill, drinks, games, and the opportunity to meet other like-minded people who are looking to give back to the community. This is an opportunity for your friends/family members to learn more about becoming a Big and get any mentoring questions answered in a casual setting. Meet and Greet with Arizona Cardinal, Jonathan Ledbetter too!

The first 50 people to RSVP and attend will receive a BBBS-branded jersey. To RSVP contact Isabel at For additional information on the Big Draft or becoming a volunteer Big please visit

For more than 65 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona has operated under the belief that, inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages six through 18. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. For more information, contact BBBSAZ at 602-264-BIGS or visit
