It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Winterhaven, one of southern Arizona’s most beloved holiday traditions, is back and better than ever, thanks to the support of a new community sponsor.
Tucson Electric Power recently announced their support of the famous light displays. “We were proud to step in last year to help keep the lights on for this wonderful event. Winterhaven neighbors put their hearts into this festival, and supporting their efforts is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our customers and everyone in the community,” said David G. Hutchens, TEP’s President and Chief Executive Officer, in a recent news release.
In its first year as title sponsor, the utility company has provided funding, new signage and more than 200 strings of new energy efficient LED lights to add shine and sparkle to Tucson. They plan to offer a $40,000 scholarship annually to support the nonprofit organization that runs the holiday light festival. This will go toward security, insurance, traffic control, portable bathrooms and more. This year, Tucson Electric Power lent a hand by sending out crews in bucket trucks to help string up lights in some of the neighborhood’s tallest trees.
The festival runs from Saturday, December 9 through Tuesday, December 26 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. every night. On select dates, Tucson Electric will distribute information about energy-efficiency programs that can help residents reduce their energy costs and “Think Green and Save Green.” Their employees will also volunteer to help with collecting donations to benefit the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
The 68th annual edition of the gorgeous light displays are open to anyone in the community. For more information, please visit www.winterhavenfestival.org.
