Local Youth in the So Swift Athletics Track Club Heading to National Junior Olympic Championships

So Swift Athletics, a USATF-affiliated Youth Track & Field Club has several athletes traveling to the National Junior Olympic Championships in Eugene, OR at Hayward Field this week (July 25-30, 2023.)


The club is still relatively new to the Central Phoenix area and has been training and mentoring athletes ages 5-18 since 2020. The club’s mission is to provide a fun and welcoming environment for athletes to have a positive and meaningful experience while learning the fundamentals of track & field.


Athletes from the team who have qualified to compete in the Nationals include:

Aniyah Martin, age 14 and competing in the 400m Hurdles and Long Jump

Eric Shaff, age 12 and competing in the 100m, 200m and 400m.

Julian Ferrari, age 14 and is competing in the 100m, 200m, and Long Jump.

Lauren Fields, age 8 and competing in the 100m and 200m and 400m

Jerimiah Fairbairn, age 8 and competing in the 400m

Hans Kugler, age 13 and competing in Triple Jump

Sarah Marquez, age 9 and competing in High Jump


Each of these athletes ran in the Junior Olympic Nationals in Albuquerque, NM the weekend of July 8-9, 2023 and placed to move forward to Eugene, OR.


Coach Tawnie Martin, the founder of So Swift Athletics and a native of Phoenix is a youth track and field coach dedicated to making a positive impact on today’s youth on and off the track. She is a passionate, dedicated, and goal-oriented coach with a proven track record of successfully mentoring and motivating student-athletes to achieve and exceed their goals. She excels in developing and implementing high-level student-athlete environments for teaching, learning, and training proper fundamentals and techniques. Coach Martin has been actively serving in the USA Track & Field Arizona Association for more than 10 years and is the Youth Chair for USATF-AZ. She is a Level 1 USATF coach, specializing in mid/long-distance and block starts. Coach Martin was previously the sprint coach at Centennial High School from 2018-2019 and has been the Sprint coach at Sunnyslope High School for the past 3 years.
