Local Teacher Heading to the Arctic

A beloved local educator is preparing for a very big (and cold!) trip.

Svea Anderson teaches sixth grade at Agua Caliente Elementary School. Soon, she will swap southern Arizona for the ice, snow and glaciers of the Arctic.

Ms. Anderson has been selected to participate in an upcoming  authentic scientific expedition. She will serve as a research team member alongside other K-12 educators as they head to locations from the Arctic Ocean to Antarctica. This program, called PolarTREC, gives teachers the chance to have an up close and personal look at how scientists conduct research in some of the most extreme, remote areas on the planet.

Anderson will spend four weeks in the Arctic as she researches the ecology of the tundra environment.

P.S. The “TREC” stands for Teachers and Researchers Exploring and Collaborating!
