Local Police Detain Armed Robbery Suspect After She Crashes Car Into Canal

An armed robbery suspect was taken into custody after crashing her car into a canal on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers with the Mesa Police Department received an armed robbery call and responded to the scene at Stapley and University drives. When the police arrived, the suspects sped off and ended up driving their vehicle into a canal on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, just north of Chaparral Road and West of County Club Drive.

The adult female suspect was apprehended at the scene, and she told officers a male suspect exited the vehicle prior the crash.

There have been no reported injuries and the investigation continues into this incident.
