Local Animal Shelters Need Your Help!

Local Animal Shelters Need Your Help!

Local shelters are asking for help in order to provide for their high number of animals during this busy time of the year.

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control operates two shelters in the Valley, one in Mesa and one in Phoenix. Normally, this time of year brings a slow season at the shelter, but this year, that is not the case. Reductions in euthanasia and a constant flow of animals into the shelter makes it difficult for the staff and volunteers to get everything done.

Right now, the shelters need any help they can get, and locals can assist by adopting or fostering animals, volunteering their time, or donating towels, blankets, food and toys.

Volunteers play a crucial role in the operation of the shelter, socializing with the animals and giving them one-on-one attention on walks and playtime outside of their kennels.

Volunteers also help by washing the blankets that are needed to keep the animals warm in their kennels. The cooler temperatures mean the shelter needs clean blankets for their animals, but they need volunteers to help with laundry to ensure all the animals are warm and comfortable. With the Mesa  shelter at full capacity, volunteers and their contributions are greatly appreciated.

If you are willing to help, please visit the official “How You Can Help” page on the Maricopa County Animal Care & Control website.
