Jury Selection to Begin in 2014 Restaurant Murder

Jury selection begins next week in the trial of a man accused of killing another man outside a Yuma restaurant in April 2014.

According to Judge Brandon Kinsey, there are 140 prospective jurors who are required to show up next Tuesday morning for jury selection in the murder trial of 47-year-old Modesto Cortes-Serrilo.

The fatal shooting occurred at Lin’s Grand Buffet, where Cortes-Serrilo allegedly shot 43-year-old Santiago Olivo-Diaz multiple times following an argument. The restaurant was on lockdown for several hours after the incident as police interviewed customers who had been inside during the time. According to the Yuma Police Department, U.S. Marshals arrested the suspect last December in Mexico City.

Modesto Cortes and Daisy Cortes were arrested for hindering prosecution after investigators discovered they both aided their father, Cortes-Serrillo, to flee Yuma and get away

In September, Cortes-Serrillo did not take a plea agreement, prompting the murder trial that will begin soon.
