On Wednesday night, iFLY Inddor Skydiving in Scottsdale hosted 51 special needs flyers and their families for All Abilities Night, a unique event at iFLY that makes the dream of flight a reality for those who are differently-abled. According to iFLY, this program has been custom designed for those with physical and mental challenges to create environment of support and inclusion, while focusing on making what seems impossible, possible. It’s the chance for those unable to participate in able-bodied activities to be challenged, push their limits and join the fun.
Everyone in the special needs community was invited to participate until the available reservations reached capacity. Each flyer received a pre-flight training session and all the necessary flight gear (suit, helmet, goggles). Specially-trained flight instructors assisted the flyers based on their individual needs. The two, one-minute flights each flyer received cost $39.95 and included a free photo.
On the iFLY Scottsdale Facebook page, they posted a video and photos featuring many of the young participants, who were all smiles. You can view it here.
“We are incredibly honored to be a part of such an amazing All Abilities Night!” they announced to Facebook fans. “We had the privilege of hosting 51 attendees and their families for the event. Watch as they take flight in the wind tunnel and soar beyond limitations.”
In late January, iFLY opened in Scottsdale adjacent to the Talking Stick Cultural and Entertainment Destination. It’s the 28th location in the U.S. and offers participants a chance to experience simulated sky diving in an enclosed vertical wind tunnel. Other locations around the U.S. also offer All Abilities Night, in addition to STEM field trips for elementary through high school-aged students, birthday parties and corporate events.
iFLY Scottsdale/Phoenix is located at 9206 East Talking Stick Way in Scottsdale. For more information call 480-712-4359 or visit their website.
