How To Allergy Proof Your Car

(Phoenix)– Our beautiful spring weather has an ugly side: allergies. As plants bloom and the wind blows pollen around, more people experience sneezing, watery eyes, congested noses and itchy throats.

Maybe you’ve heard that washing bedding regularly and limiting time outdoors can help allergy sufferers. There’s another important, often overlooked area to help reduce symptoms: vehicles.

Keep It Clean

·      Dust the dashboards.

·      Wipe down doors.

·      Biologicals accumulate in the area between the hood and windshield, so regularly vacuuming and cleaning is important.

·      Traveling with pets will increase allergens and frequent vacuuming can help.

Use The Right Filter

·      A cabin air filter is designed to ensure the air inside your car is free from environmental pollutants when the windows are rolled up.

·      If the cabin air filter is in poor condition it can trap irritants and cause you to breathe in more contaminants than if the windows were down.

·      A clogged air filter can also reduce airflow and impact your air conditioning.

·      Make sure the air conditioning is on the recirculation setting.

Check The Windows

·      During peak spring allergy season (generally March -May in Phoenix), keep your windows rolled up.

·      Check for gaps or cracks that could let allergens in.

·      Make sure the air conditioning runs on the recirculation setting

Allergy and Asthma Facts

·      There’s no cure for asthma and allergies.

·      More than 50 million Americans have all types of allergies.

·      Air pollution includes gases, smoke from fires, volcanic ash and dust particles.
