Ladies and gentlemen, start (building) your engines! Arizona Science Center, Universal Technical Institute, and Hot Rodders of Tomorrow are teaming up to challenge the kids in our community – some assembly required. Students in first through twelfth grade are invited to join mentors from the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow and Universal Technical Institute as they fully disassemble and then reassemble a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine. Learn how an internal combustion engine works, explore the intersection between STEM careers and the automotive industry, and get a glimpse of the high-tech systems that power modern cars and the skills it takes to work on them.
In addition to taking the Engine Building Challenge, guests can:
- Witness a live demonstration as computers diagnose and help to supercharge the power of a souped-up Ford Mustang, complete with a Roush Yates racing engine
- Snap a selfie with the Universal Technical Institute Junior Dragster
- Take a look inside a Briggs & Stratton cutaway demo engine
- Compete in the drag racing “Christmas tree” reaction timer game
- Take home a coloring book for the younger kids
