Hearth ’61 receives its first Wine Spectator Award

Hearth ’61 at Mountain Shadows in Paradise Valley won its first Wine Spectator Award due to its outstanding and diversified wine program. Mountain Shadows’ Food and Beverage Manager Jim Gallen is responsible for the thoughtful curation of the wine collection and has over 25 years of experience after winemaking across the world and serving as an esteemed buyer for Mark Tarbell’s restaurants. It was highly important to him to bring a critically-acclaimed wine program to Mountain Shadows to go hand-in-hand with Chef Charles Wiley’s renowned cuisine and food-forward culinary events with wine pairings like Sunday Supper Club. The restaurant has over 175 selections within its collection ranging from globally-diverse regions as close as Napa Valley to as far as New Zealand. Hearth ’61 was pleased to be honored with the Award of Excellence. Other restaurants in Arizona that were honored this year include Café Monarch and Tarbell’s Tavern.

Hearth ’61 is among a full list of Wine Spectator Magazine’s 2019 winners that include approximately 3,800 restaurants in the United States and 79 other countries and territories. The awards are divided into three categories: Award of Excellence, Best of Award Excellence and the highest honor, the Grand Award. Each establishment is judged upon various categories like wine pricing, wine director experience, cuisine type and menu pricing, and overall wine selection.
