Hayden’s Ferry Chamber Music Series launches its fifth season with an afternoon of cello sonatas at Tempe Center for the Arts sponsored by Northern Trust.
Cellist Suren Bagratuni, Tchaikovsky silver medalist, plays the Shostakovich Cello Sonata and more with pianist George Vatchnadze on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21, at 2:30 p.m.
Bagratuni is a distinguished performer and the cello professor at Michigan State University College. Vatchnadze has appeared with orchestras and in recital throughout the world. He teaches piano at DePaul University in Chicago.
“The 2018-19 series celebrates its fifth year with young contest winners embarking on their careers, well-established professionals and ballerinas,” says Catherine Hayden series producer. “The concerts are always fun and full of energy with audience just a few feet away from the musicians. It’s easy to fall in love with the music and the musicians when they perform at the Tempe Center for the Arts.”
Future concerts include:
· Dec. 2, baritone Michael Meraw with pianist Tanya Blaich commemorating the 150th anniversary of the death of Claude Debussy
· Jan. 13, 2019, Strings and Ballerinas merging traditional chamber music with contemporary ballet
· Feb. 24, Omer Quartet, first prize winners of the 2017 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, perform a program of Haydn, Debussy, Beethoven and Chris Rogerson
· April 14, the Telegraph Quartet, winners of the prestigious 2016 Walter Naumburg Chamber Music Award, will play Mozart, Berg and Ravel
